Our Method

Restoration of silverplate requires the removal of the original silverplate and skillful metal polishing of the base EPNS,Copper or Brass to remove all marks and abrasions. The article is then highly polished to 'gleam finish' and then silverplated in 99.99% pure fine silver. On completion of silverplating the article is then 'scratch brushed' to confirm adhesion and then professionally polished to 'mirror finish'.

Britannia Metal, which is essentially a tin based alloy, is correctly restored using the same techniques outlined above. We do not copperplate or nickleplate Britannia Metal prior to the application of silverplate. No manufacturer of EPBM ever did and neither do we. The correct method of restoration is a more time consuming process than that of EPNS,copper or brass, but the results achieved are well worth that extra mile.

We do not use artificial brightners, antimony based or organic, but prefer to retain a traditional 1800's style of craftsmanship to give time tested long lasting proven results. (If the silverplate stays in place after scratchbrushing and metal polishing then believe me it's not going anywhere).
